We already can verify and approve on-line coursework that is for college credit. So, now we are finalizing the criteria to approve and verify on-line training that is not for college credit.

Community forums are open to many participants, while the work groups will be a defined group that will work over ten months. If you would like to be part of or facilitate a work group please fill out our survey or facilitator application at the weblink below by January 11, 2011. Assessment of Prior Learning is a three-step process:

1. Enrollment in Community College of Vermont’s three-credit Assessment of Prior Learning course. During the 15-week semester, students develop a portfolio that identifies, articulates and documents their prior college-level learning. Classroom instruction consists of large and small group work, as well as individual sessions with the instructor and possibly some on-line work.

2. Submitting the portfolio. At the end of the semester, students submit their portfolio to the Vermont State Colleges Office of External Programs (OEP). OEP assembles advanced standing committees to assess the portfolios and award college transfer credit.

3. Students transfer the credit they are awarded to a degree-granting institution. The credits awarded are considered Vermont State Colleges transfer credits. They can be transferred to a college or university of the student’s choice that accepts experiential learning credits.
